What is the experience like at the Obelisk Lookout?
The visit begins by climbing eight steps to reach the new internal elevator of the Obelisk. This elevator, specially designed to avoid altering the original structure , has a capacity for four people and a glass side that allows you to observe the interior of the monument during the one-minute ascent. Another side features an information screen that accompanies the tour.
Upon reaching the 55th floor, visitors complete their ascent with a 35-step spiral staircase to the top of the observation deck. Once there, the four windows facing the cardinal directions offer a privileged view of the city: 9 de Julio Avenue , the vastness of the Microcentro (downtown) , the historic rooftops, and the vibrant energy that pulses through the streets of Buenos Aires.
The full experience lasts 20 minutes , and includes a historical and cultural narration that details the evolution of the Obelisk and its significance for the identity of Buenos Aires.
Safety, accessibility, and details to consider
Buenos Aires welcomes over 9 million tourists each year, and the Obelisk is always a must-see. With this new viewpoint, the experience becomes more immersive and personalized , strengthening cultural tourism in the Argentine capital.
Due to the monument's technical limitations, the viewpoint is not accessible to people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users . However, a virtual reality experience is being developed so that those unable to ascend can still explore the history and views of the Obelisk from a different perspective.
The works carried out to adapt the interior of the monument respected its status as a National Historic Monument , guaranteeing its structural preservation.
