Aviacionline , a media outlet specializing in aviation news, reported that the Operations Registration System Manual (SIROS) of the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) included records indicating December 12, 2024 as the date on which Turkish Airlines will begin operating flights between Istanbul (IST) and Santiago (SCL) of Chile, with a stopover in São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU) .

Turkish Airlines plans to operate this route with up to four weekly flights , using modern Airbus A350-900 aircraft with a capacity of 324 passengers. This translates to 2,632 seats available per week, significantly increasing the number of international flights from Chile to Europe and Asia.

The following flights are based on information cited from ANAC Brazil, which is still pending confirmation :

  • Istanbul – São Paulo flight TK 215 IST 14:50 – 04:30 (+1 day) GRU / Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • São Paulo – Santiago flight TK 215 GRU 06:05 – 10:00 SCL / Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Santiago – São Paulo flight TK 216 SCL 11:55 – 15:30 GRU / Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
  • São Paulo – Istanbul flight TK 216 GRU 17:05 – 05:35 (+1 day) IST / Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Turkish Airlines' arrival in Santiago makes the Chilean capital its ninth destination in Latin America, joining a list that includes Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Bogota, Havana, Mexico City, Cancun, Panama City and Caracas .

High expectations for the new route

The operator of Santiago's airport, Nuevo Pudahuel, also confirmed the news shortly after the airline's official announcement. Through its social media channels, it expressed its enthusiasm: " We continue to strengthen the connectivity of Chile's main airport with the world ."

Currently, this route is led by LATAM, which operates 70 weekly flights, followed by SKY and JetSMART, each with 21 weekly flights. According to the Chilean Civil Aviation Board (JAC), this is the country's third most important international route, having transported 663,476 passengers during the first half of 2024 .
