What is ESTA and how does it work?

The ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is an online platform managed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, part of the Department of Homeland Security, that allows citizens of participating countries to apply for electronic travel authorization to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP ). This process is conducted on the official website: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov .

The electronic travel authorization is valid for tourism, business, and transit and lasts for two years . Each trip allows a maximum stay of 90 days and cannot be extended or have its status changed during the stay.

To better plan your trip, remember that authorization is received online within a maximum of 72 hours. Once you receive it, you can embark on your next adventure in the United States .
